what is?

as i am writing this.. i do not have a picture for this entry. i might later. as i am writing this.. i do not know what to write about. yet my mind wonders for something to fill in the blanks.. its been a tough week.. and a tough few months. it's also been extremely beautiful and heavenly in a certain point of view.

today i made a statement saying that it is so easy for people to rate success as where u are at ur current job status, and i cannot agree with that. its so easy for people to say.. '' waaahh look at him/ her!! she's a top manager of that firm okay.. he's/she's the senior lawyer in that firm, head doctor of the hospital " no doubt about that.. successful indeed.

but what about someone who left his/her job to travel around the world in 8 months just to satisfy his/her dream to see the world? or what a bout someone who works as a waiter/waitress in a very small cafe yet has the most beautiful loving relationship with his/her partner?

its so easy to be sucked into this whole idea that success is how much u earn and what job u do.

what is success to you?

eh-lo...got 2 know bout ur blog thru the Star. sorry for the INVASION of privacy..!true enuff..society today tend 2 measure how successful a person is thru material stuffs. for me, that's kinda sick. but then, whether like it or not..i'm one of them. sadly..:-(
true success is not measured by how much money or possesion u have. instead, a person who is trully success in life...enjoy what he/she is doing n lovin every seconds of it. and i guess..like u said...when a person is able to satisfed his/her dream(s)...that person = a succesful person.

Hi Juliana...

I think true success is when you're able to achieve all your targets and make some of (if not all) your dreams come true despite all the obstacles.. and esp when you're able to do it on your own and not through other people's help/assistance. Some people are successful indeed, but not by their own merit & initiative but thru other people, so there's no real glory in it...

If u'r thinking of material/temporal success, u need not worry... 2 a certain extent, u've tasted this more than most Malaysians will ever know.

However, i think u'r thinking of a more spiritually-centred sense of success. Most people lack this to a great degree. Ultimately, success 2 me means being able to balance one's inner needs with one's material needs so that both complement each other seamlessly like a hand in glove. Both feed on each other like an integrated circuit. They're both different sides of the same coin; one cannot exist without the other.

What's the point of gaining the world only to lose your your soul, then to rediscover the soul only to lose the world, only to thereafter chase the world again to lose the soul once more...

U can lose either, or both... then again, u can have BOTH. It's not impossible.

I know all these sound preachy; I've not spoken like this 4 a long, long time... back 2 my normal self... songs u should listen to in moments of spiritual uncertainty would be REM's LOSING MY RELIGION (pls DON'T lose your religion) and Nirvana's (or David Bowie's) THE MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD, who sold it a rather bargain, basement price...

ahh silly lah ( the whole Asian obsession about success measuring yardstick)

Tell u what. im envious of that person who can just give up their jobs and travel the world man...

BTW, i get this all the time. except that im the opposite. im a regional manager for an MNC, so naturally, people expect me to behave "like a regional manager" (whatever that means) even when im OFF work. i mean WTF? ( pardon my mandarin) lepas kerja aku joe schmoo laa...i dont have to "act" like anything...

Success is achieving whatever it is you want to achieve ... and doing whatever you like ... even if it means setting up a pisang goreng stall at the roadside.

It is what your perception that matters, not others'.
